Mount Vernon Baptist Church exists to glorify God by bringing people to Jesus and membership in His family; leading them to magnify God through worship in spirit and in truth; developing them to Christ-like maturity; and equipping and empowering them for ministry through personal service in the church, community and world.
Mount Vernon is a community of faith serving God and the body of Christ by expressing the five purposes of the church:
WORSHIP (MAGNIFY):
“Jesus said to him…it is written: ‘Worship the Lord your God, and serve Him only'” Matthew 4:10b (NIV).
EVANGELISM (SHARE):
“But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth” Acts 1:8 (NIV).
FELLOWSHIP (CONNECT):
“So now you Gentiles are no longer strangers and foreigners. You are citizens along with all of God’s holy people. You are members of God’s family” Ephesians 2:19 (NLT).
DISCIPLESHIP (GROW):
“So we continue to preach Christ to each person, using all wisdom to warn and to teach everyone, in order to bring each one into God’s presence as a mature person in Christ” Colossians 1:28 (NCV).
MINISTRY (SERVE):
“To prepare God’s people for works of service, so that the body of Christ may be built up” Ephesians 4:12 (NIV).
Mount Vernon Baptist Church has existed for nearly 150 years and remains a vibrant congregation with about 1,000 people in worship each week. We believe we are strategically located in the Richmond area to reach people of all backgrounds and faiths with the Gospel of Jesus Christ. We are affiliated with the Southern Baptist Convention.
