Mount Vernon Special Needs Ministry exists to provide support & accommodations so that all children and students can hear, understand, and respond to the Gospel. The ministry provides relationship based discipleship & support in order for the Gospel to be accessible to every child and student who walks through our doors.
“I will praise You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made; Marvelous are Your works, And that my soul knows very well.”
Psalm 139:14

The goal of the Special Needs Ministry here at Mount Vernon is for every child and student to be able to hear, understand, and respond to the Gospel. Every program, policy, and procedure filters through our goal. This includes what supports are provided for every individual child and student, as well as what classroom they will be placed in. It is important to note that Mount Vernon Special Needs Ministry will not mirror school accommodation plans or replicate how special education operates in the public school system. Our volunteers are not trained behavior therapists or special education teachers. They are faithful people who love the Lord and desire for the Gospel to be accessible for every person that steps through our doors.
Mount Vernon Special Needs Ministry decides what support and setting will best set your child up for success in our ministry based on our own observations and what resources we have available at Mount Vernon.
The first step in our enrollment process is filling out the intake form so we can get to know you and your child/student better. Once we have your information, the Minister for Special Needs to Children and Students will contact you to discuss next steps and answer any questions you may have.
While we welcome walk-in visitors, parents of children and students who have special needs visiting for the first time who have not enrolled in our Special Needs Ministry may be asked to stay in the classroom as we get to know your child/student and learn the best ways to support them for the first week. We may not have the volunteers necessary without advance notice. Parents must fill out an abridged intake form in the lobby and meet with Ashley Jones, Minister for Special Needs to Children & Students.
